found here will enhance your cover letter writing. Each of the cover
letter tips and techniques are easy to implement.
In
today's competitive job market a targeted cover letter should be
part of your job search plan. When applying for a job, the
interviewer needs all pertinent information at his or her finger
tips.
Writing an
effective cover letter: cover letter tips and techniques
- Choose a font style
and size that is compatible with various computer software programs.
When you select a font that is too "fancy," you run the
risk of the letters contents being jumbled. Font facts you can
use include Times New Roman, Book Antigua, and Garamond.
- Your cover letter
message should be clear: you want to work for the hiring
organization. This means the information you provide should be
specific to the employer's needs. Skip idol chit-tat by keeping the
information relevant.
- The style and tone
of your cover letter should be formal but not too formal. You have
to strike a balance between professionalism and letting your
personality shine through. Do not use the following words / phrases
in your cover letter: per our conversation, pursuant, thus, enclosed
for your perusal.
- An effective cover
letter and resume work as a team. That said, the information in the
cover letter should be unique. Simply do not repeat the facts in
your resume because that will make for a boring read. In addition,
the style of the resume and cover letter should match. For example,
each should use the same font face and size, header, and margins.
- Prove
specific examples of your accomplishments. For example, if you
tout your ability to bring in new clients, back up that
information with solid numbers.
- Consider
adding personal information if its relevant to the job opening
and if you are in "touchy feely" industries. The
health services and educational fields are two that are
perfectly fine to talk about the personal reasons you entered
the profession.
- The structure
letter should follow regular business protocol:
Your contact
information in the following order:
Name
Address
City, State, Zip Code
Phone Number
Email Address
Salutation:
Dear Ms./Mr.
(last name of the contact person. Never use Sir or Madame):
Body of the
email starts right after the salutation. Here is where you
state your case and career goals.
Closing:
Sincerely,
Your Name
