Good Interview Questions

When you answer good interview questions effectively, you'll receive job offers up the wazzo. Proper interview preparation is the foundation of a successful job search.

This piece will focus on interview tips, job search advice, and good interview questions and answers.

Interview tips: gain the interview skills to ace the job interview

The key to answering questions is to keep your job interview answers tight. Resist the temptation to provide a laundry list of specifics. The more you talk, the more likely you will trip up. Be careful to mention targeted answers only.

Always answer questions with confidence, especially those that get you hot under the collar. Keep your cool under pressure when you are asked questions that are difficult to answer.

If the interviewer asks, "what salary do you need?," do your best to get the interviewer to provide a number first.

Never fib when providing an explanation. The interviewer needs to trust you. One slipup and you will not be able to gain back the interviewer's trust.

Job search advice: give the best answers

Good Interview Question #1: During the workday there could be a lot distractions. Tell me about a time when you remained focused with constant interruptions.

Good Job Interview Answer: Remaining focused and on task is very important in order to meet deadlines. When answering this question rely to the interviewer a time when you were completed a project under time constraints. Do not go into a play-by-play. Simply provide loose facts.

Good Interview Question #2: What was the last class you took a class or book you read to keep up to date on your skills?

Good Job Interview Answer: As a professional, you should devote time to your professional development. If you do, this question is easy to answer. If you don't...well...you're up a creek without a paddle. So head out and register for a class or take out a book from your local library and get to learning!

Good Interview Question #3: Name a person who has passed away that you admire, and that you would like to meet if you had the opportunity.

Good Job Interview Answer: Choose a figure that isn't too political or religious because you never want to alienate the interviewer. Whomever you select should have the qualities you also possess.

Good Interview Question #4: Tell me about a time when were under a tight deadline that you thought you weren't going to meet.

Good Job Interview Answer: Don't tell the interviewer that you almost buckled under pressure. When you tell your story, don't drag out the circumstances or make the circumstances more dramatic than they were. Simply share a story where you came out victorious.

Good Interview Question #5: Tell me what you know about this organization and the reason you want work here.

Good Job Interview Answer: Conduct company research before you interview with the hiring organization and use the information you found to your advantage.

Good Interview Question #6: Why should we hire you over other qualified candidates?

Good Job Interview Answer: Be prepared to answer this question because it will most likely be asked. This question should be easy for you to answer.

Whenever possible, demonstrate your value, minimize your mistakes, demonstrate how you overcome conflict, and how you drive growth in a productive environment.
